The Sadie Balkind Scholarship was established in memory of the late Sadie Balkind (d. 1985). Sadie Balkind was a member of the then-Federation of University Women, who made a generous bequest to the Canterbury Branch.

The scholarship supports a successful student to undertake fulltime postgraduate study below PhD level at either the University of Canterbury, Lincoln University or Ara Institute of Canterbury. It is valid for 12 months and the Scholarship is for $12,500. It is open to female New Zealand citizens who have demonstrated high academic achievement.

Each Sadie Balkind Scholar participates in selected activities of Graduate Women Canterbury during the term of the scholarship. The annual closing date for applications is 15 December.
