Secondary Schools Science Fair 2022 – Back with a Bang.

The Canterbury Westland Science Fair for 2022 had a fantastic turn out, after 2 years of alternative events due to Covid. 180 exhibits from year 7-13 entered, with 17 schools from across the region entering students! GWC have been actively sponsoring two prizes, one for the junior bracket and one for the senior bracket for a number of years.

Our board representative Helen Rowley judged the exhibits for the GWC prize on the criteria of independent research, originality, scientific content, oral and poster board presentation; the values of sustainability, and supporting fields where women are underrepresented.

This year the talent was spectacular, and Helen was impressed with both the detail of the projects and the wide array of subjects.

The 2022 GWC awards winners were:

Best junior exhibit by a female student
Anna Coberger
The Cathedral Grammar School
Year 7
